Supernova Bath Bomb

When Lush first announced that something called Supernova was being released this week in the kitchen, alarm bells immediately began to go off in my head. Firstly, I concluded very quickly that my bank balance would suffer pretty badly because of it - not something I took very lightly, given how much I need to scrimp and save for the upcoming seasonal period. Secondly, I realised that I would have to wade amongst my mountain bath bombs, bubble bars and bath melts - just to try and find a place to store the million and one of these that I was planning on buying.

This bath bomb shares it's scent with the gorgeous Snowshowers range which can also be found in shower gel and shower jelly format, not to mention in the current Christmas collection. Golden Wonder BallisticFirst Snow Dusting Powder and Celebrate Body Lotion all possess the same fragrance - a smell that is made to be enjoyed throughout the winter months.
While I was initially confused as to why Lush had chosen to bring out this bath bomb when Golden Wonder was still available, I soon understood their decision when the beautiful products arrived in the post - engulfing my whole house with their wonderful aroma and raising my spirits ten-fold.

Although they both smell like Snow Showers, Supernova, which was originally called Champagne Supernova, is a far sweeter offering and showcases a slightly more fizzy aroma, which is completely in-keeping with Lush's idea of making this bomb smell like a celebratory glass of bubbly.

The fragrance is based on the alcoholic drink; a lively, sweet, effervescent white grape smell with elements of citrusy orange and acidic lime. All of this is rounded off with a generous dash of cognac, which helps to soften and smooth out the citrus smell and make it almost creamy. It's a very gentle scent - one that has been described as 'fizzy orange soda' by other reviewers. While I can see their reasoning, I think there is something extra special about this fragrance - a layer of sophistication that puts it above many of the other citrus smells that you find in the cosmetics word; it's fresh, natural but also very comforting.

As well as it's fragrance, Supernova also has the advantage of being gorgeous to look at. Sporting a bright pink shell, Lush have packed this ballistic full of multi-coloured confetti. As the bath bomb bobs on the surface, spewing out a mound of creamy, frothy foam, the confetti escapes into the water and showcases an attractive array of colours to entice you into the bath.

Although Lush fans who dislike bath bombs with 'extra baggage', may initially be put off trying the product for this very reason, I can assure you that the strips of confetti do not effect your bathing at all and they dissolve fairly quickly in the water, leaving you with no mess to clean up afterwards.

The inclusion of orange, lime and cognac oil also makes this bath bomb really softening on the skin and it's probably one of the more moisturising baths I've had in a while. Furthermore, the scent of Supernova remains with you throughout the whole bath and leaves a gentle lingering fragrance on your skin afterwards.

While the bath bomb is a bright and very playful-pink colour, the smell definitely has an air of sophistication which would make it appealing to people of all ages. This is as much a comforting ballistic as much as it is a refreshing one, so although I said that this is a perfect winter accompaniment, it would equally work well in the warmer months.

While I was initially confused as to why this bath bomb was released when Golden Wonder is still available to purchase, I've come to realise that they are both completely different experiences and I would happily buy more of these if they ever became available again.

  2. Sounds amazing!! It's one of my favorite scents as well. I really hope celebrate perfume wins the contest for the kitchen. Fingers crossed. Which ones did you vote for?

    1. I hope Celebrate wins for your sake but I'm hoping for Yuzu Coco wins that round because it's one of my favourite scents from Lush! I voted for The Comforter in round 1, Yog Nog in round two, Lord Of Misrule in round four (if this ones, I will have to declare myself bankrupt!!) and Magic in round 5, although that last one was tough as I really want both of them.

In all fairness, I really want Jingle Spells as well - I wish Lush would just bring out all 10 scents! How about yourself?

    2. Oddly enough, all the scents I voted for won. But I was shocked that yuzu and coco didn't win, and even more shocked hat snow fairy didn't win. I thought there might be some sort of rioting in the streets or at least a boycott of sorts lol. Anyway, I am happy for the winners but my bank account will not be so thrilled. But I agree with you, they should just do them all. I think the voting was pretty close on most, except LOM. :)
